This is a second programme of the concert series The Universe of J. S. Bach’s Music. Musica humana ensemble continues its musical journey with music by J. S. Bach and the 17th – 20th c. Lithuanian composers. Indeed, in the course of different epochs this Baroque genius inspired many a composer, including Lithuanian.
Musica humana programs J.S. Bach’s orchestral suites No 1 in C major, BWV 1066 and No 2 in B minor, BWV 1067 that are brimming with verve and sparkling baroque embellishments. “Dance melodies in suites conceal a long forgotten world of elegance and grace. It is an ideal symbol of Rococo Art. Their immaculate charm projects both power and grace”, wrote Albert Schweitzer, a philosopher and Bach scholar. Bach suites came to concert stage after quite some time – for 100 years the composer was forgotten and Mendelssohn revived Bach’s music as late as 1838.
The concert programme also offers music by Lithuanian composers Martynas Krečmeris, Andrius Rogačevskis and Juozas Naujalis as well as works by contemporary composers: Loreta Narvilaitė’s Solitude, Vaida Striaupaitė-Beinarienė’s Keyword, Osvaldas Balakauskas’ Suite of Dances and Algirdas Martinaitis’ songs on the lyrics by Marcelijus Martinaitis.
