6th Vilnius Piano Music Festival
Welcome to the 6th Vilnius Piano Festival, which is also celebrating its tenth anniversary. Since 2009, the biennial festival has presented 37 concerts, featuring 53 pianists and 11 conductors from 26 countries.
The festival’s dedications and themes (a thousand years since the first mention of Lithuania’s name and 200 years since the birth of Fryderyk Chopin, 2009; 200 years since the birth of Franz Liszt and 100 years since the death of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, 2011; ‘Touched by the Muses’ to congratulate Krzysztof Penderecki on his 80th birthday, 2013; ‘Tandems’, 2015; and ‘Wanderers’, 2017) have been inspired by life and encounters reflecting the words of Antonio Machado ‘The road is made by walking’. Today, it has brought us to ‘A Woman’s Love and Life’.
The 6th Vilnius Piano Festival is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the birth of the pianist and composer Clara Schumann. In paying tribute to one of the most illustrious women pianists and composers, we will also honour Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, two geniuses who inspired her and who were inspired by their loved one. We will bow to many other eminent Romantics as well.
Halfway into the festival, we will symbolically transfer to France. I am extremely happy that long-time collaborative efforts have finally resulted in a master course in French music at the festival.
I dedicate this festival to my beloved late mother Taïsa-Teresė Gomolickaitė-Rubackienė, my aunt Irena Gomolickaitė, and my grandmother Marija Gomolickienė, three women who inspired me with the theme of my life.
