In the first decades of the 20th century Lithuania’s political and cultural history abounded with memorable events, the most important 100th anniversaries of which we celebrate almost every year. In fact, in the context of music history, we commemorated the 100th anniversaries of two Lithuanian composers coryphées’: Julius Juzeliūnas (1916) and Eduardas Balsys (1919). And the centenary of the Constituent Seimas stands alongside the centenary of the Lithuanian State Music School. Juozas Naujalis founded a music school in Kaunas in 1919, and a year later, in 1920, this institution became the Lithuanian State Music School. It has been a cradle of most of the Lithuanian professional music education traditions. Later, the school was reorganized into Kaunas Conservatoire, which served as the foundation for the future Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.

To commemorate this anniversary, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society presents music by Lithuanian composers performed by various musicians associated with Kaunas J. Gruodis Conservatoire (they either have acquired music education here or associate their professional activities with this institution): tenor Merūnas Vitulskis, pianist Motiejus Bazaras, oboist Viktoras Palejus, accordionist Laimonas Salijus and organist Dalia Jatautaitė.
