Dedication to the Independence
It feels that we just celebrated the Centennial of the Restored State of Lithuania (1918–2018), and today we are anticipating the thirtieth anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of Lithuania. When 30 years ago on March 11 the news about the restored Independence of Lithuania spread around the world, we have bravely declared that we want to be free, want to grow and improve, enjoy and be unhampered in saying what we think.
On this evening dedicated to the Independence, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra led by Maestro Modestas Pitrėnas collaborates with Viktorija Miškūnaitė, one of the leading Lithuanian soloists. After the premiere of the opera Didone Abbandonata in 2018, Jürgen Flimm, the former artistic director of Salzburg Festival and the Intendant of the Berlin State Opera, did not spare praise for Miškūnaitė’s performance in his interview for the Austrian television ORF: “She is not a star. She is a shiny diamond, which you can enjoy up close.” Moreover, the musicians will share the stage with baritone Modestas Sedlevičius, a prize-winner of the Virgilijus Noreika Singing Competition (Lithuania) and former member of the Academy of the La Scala Theatre. The gala concert programme will offer a garland of Lithuanian music spanning from the works composed in the beginning of the 20th century to the latest opuses: from Juozas Naujalis, Kazimieras Banaitis, Vladas Jakubėnas and Balys Dvarionas to Giedrius Kuprevičius, Arvydas Malcys and Kipras Mašanauskas.
