An exclusive evening of piano art features Elisso Virsaladze, an illustrious Georgian pianist and pedagogue. A disciple of the legendary Heinrich Neuhaus and Yakov Zak at the Moscow Conservatoire, she initiated her international career with the third prize at the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition and the first prize at the Schumann Competition in Zwickau. She has given great number of memorable concerts and received major awards. Virsaladze is a professor of Moscow Conservatoire and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, and serves as a jury member in the world’s most significant international competitions.
She is considered to be today’s leading interpreter of Robert Schumann’s works. Thus it is not surprising, that in this concert she programs Fantasie in C major, Op. 17, one of his most monumental opuses charged with personal dramas and romantic issues and projecting his feelings to future wife Clara Wieck, the most talented woman pianist and composer of the day.
Virsaladze regularly gives concerts in Europe, the USA and Japan, collaborates with St Petersburg Philharmonic SO, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, as well as American and Japanese orchestras led by Rudolf Barschai, Riccardo Muti, Kurt Sanderling, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Yevgeny Svetlanov, Yuri Temirkanov, etc. In recent years, the recitals and chamber music appearances have taken the pianist to Lyon, Milan, Moscow, Seoul and Tokyo; she has led the master classes in Europe and Japan; served as a jury member in the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition and Hong Kong International Piano Competition.
