RAMuzika Trio:
Dream Near Vilija

Stanisław Moniuszko, Henryk Wieniawski, Wilhelm Popp

RAMuzika dedicates this concert to Polish composer Stanisław Moniuszko’s 200th birth anniversary. Closely associated with Lithuanian capital, the 19th-century composer Moniuszko wrote his most significant works in Vilnius, where he spent 18 years of actively working as a composer and cultural worker. He contributed greatly to Lithuanian cultural history. It was in Vilnius Town Hall in 1848 that Moniuszko staged and conducted the first performance of his most famous opera Halka. The composer was an enthusiast of Vilnius musical life: organised concerts, established and led St Cecilia’s Society, conducted Vilnius City Theatre orchestra, was instrumental in music publishing, served as an organist at St Johns’ Church (1840–1842).

Operas, cantatas and songs (around 300 on Polish, French and German texts) constitute the most significant part of his oeuvre. Three outstanding performers – singer Aistė Širvinskaitė, pianist Rūta Blaškytė and violinist Miglė Dikšaitienė – offer programme Dream Near Vilija featuring Moniuszko’s songs as well as instrumental opuses by Henryk Wieniawski and Wilhelm Popp.
