For Night Serenades closing concert Maestro Robertas Šervenikas leads the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and Roman Kim, a violin virtuoso who made his impressive appearance in Vilnius in March. Born in Kazakhstan to a family with Tatar, Belarusian and Korean origins, the musician now lives in Germany. With his highly individual interpretations, Kim constantly pushes the limits of violin technique. “One of the most terrific violinists I have heard since I was born, and that happened considerable number of years ago!” said legendary violinist Ivry Gitlis. To this day Kim is greatly influenced by the art of legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix. In addition, Kim composes and also performs transcriptions of classical works. His spectacular transcription of Bach’s Air (on G string) caused a worldwide sensation. This original version was published by Bärenreiter, one Germany’s the leading publishing houses. Tonight Kim offers one of his unparalleled arrangements of I Brindisi for violin and string orchestra. According to the violinist, this opus is an introduction and variations on Libiamo ne’lieti calici from Verdi’s opera La traviata.
