This year already 13th edition of the International Chamber Music Festival Curonian Spit, enjoying popularity with many people, turns another page and opens untraditionally: via online broadcast from the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Concert Hall.

“On the occasion of the opening of the festival, Musica Humana Chamber Ensemble will present a special programme titled Musical Chess. These days, each of us is involved in a kind of game – like playing chess. When performing music, we always open the score and build figures for a new interpretation, because every opus is like a chess match involving a composer and listeners. We will travel around different epochs and countries, get acquainted with different styles and cultures, of course, always returning to Lithuania.

This year, the programmes of the Curonian Spit festival are dedicated to two occasions: Neringa is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year and is the Lithuanian Capital of Culture. There will be 12 events at the festival, one of the most important being the premiere of the chamber opera-triptych Neringa. The work is being written by three composers: Vaida Striaupaitė-Beinarienė, Loreta Narvilaitė and Algirdas Martinaitis. Festival programmes will be presented on outdoor stages, in cultural centres and churches, as well as online. In this way, we will reach listeners not only in Lithuania, but also around the world”, says Robertas Beinaris, the artistic director of the festival.
