This versatile concert programme was conceived by Chicago-born trumpeter Dovas Lietuvninkas to present the music of two of his beloved countries, the United States and Lithuania. The musician seeks to remind of the long and interconnected history of the two countries and to unite these cultures through people and creativity. Alongside well-known works, the musicians will premiere the most recent works by Lithuanian composers written specifically for this concert. Lietuvninkas seeks to expand the trumpet repertoire, commissioning works from his friend-composers. He is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (New York State); as the Fulbright Scholarship holder he studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (under Laurynas Lapė). He regularly performs with multi-instrumentalist Saulius Petreikis, Brassspalvos and others, and is the principal trumpet of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. This afternoon’s performing forces include Dovas’ loyal colleagues – soloists and members of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra: trumpeter Laurynas Lapė; violinist and the principal violin of the Orchestra Rasa Vosyliūtė and ensemble Brasspalvos, which has been active for a decade and has been indulging audiences with intriguing programmes. All the performers are accompanied by pianist Dovilė Bagdonaitė, an assistant concertmaster of Detmold College of Music (Germany), winner of many competitions, who, by the way, also knows how to play the trumpet.
