According to pianist professor Rokas Zubovas, “in Lithuanian consciousness Čiurlionis stands as a symbolic figure, a certain code of essential features of national art, which is genetically transposed from one generation into another and to this day moulds not only the style of different creators, but also more general ideological tendencies, thinking and world view.” Composers write works based on or inspired by Čiurlionis’ oeuvre and reflect upon various aspects of his art. Many a Lithuanian composer from senior to young one has written works of this kind. Thus, it is more than fitting to celebrate the Day of Restoration of Lithuania’s Independence – the 16th of February – with musical dedication to this eternal symbol of Lithuanian culture. The performing forces include Lithuania’s leading collectives and three conductors.
