Credo (Eng. I believe) is not just a title of the concert program featuring specific works. It also denotes Jauna muzika’s, one of the foremost Lithuanian choirs, faith in the power of art, the power of sharing music with the listeners and the might of kinship in music. “Regardless of the fact that we all are unique, we all share similar perceptions, thus it is no wonder that some things are equally important for many of us” said Vaclovas Augustinas, the choir’s Artistic Director. In 2019-2010 season the collective celebrates its 30th anniversary! Established in 1989, Jauna muzika is, perhaps, the best-known choir in Lithuania. In 30 years it has accumulated versatile repertoire embracing works for choir a cappella from all epochs as well as vocal-instrumental masterpieces. It has given first performances to a number of works. Contemporary Lithuanian and foreign music occupies a significant part of the choir’s repertoire. Tonight the choir presents world premiere: Credo for two sopranos, choir, organ and percussion by Donatas Zakaras, a winner of M.K. Čiurlionis Prize awarded by the Lithuanian Composers’ Union. The concert’s rich programme features Credo opuses from renaissance and contemporary composers: Finn Einojuhani Rautavaara and Estonian Arvo Pärt, whose Te Deum will crown the entire concert.
