Čiurlionis Quartet, a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize, has been active for more than forty-five years. Constantly looking for fresh ideas the Quartet often teams-up with young performers, takes part in diverse music projects. This time the Quartet appears with talented young performers Antanas Taločka (clarinet) and Laurynas Lapė (trumpet).

Antanas Taločka is the principal clarinet of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. He enjoys playing both solo and chamber repertoire, takes part in festivals in Lithuania and abroad. The clarinettist is a winner of international competitions in Lithuania, Czech Republic and Italy. He has collaborated with renowned Lithuanian and international performers.

Upon graduating from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Laurynas Lapė earned the Master Degree from the Academy of Music in Malmo (Sweden), was a member of the Malmo Opera Theatre Orchestra, Aero Brass ensemble, as well as Helsingborg and Malmo symphony orchestras. Currently, he is a member of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra as well as Vilnius Brass quintet, Protoberus Brass and Gaida contemporary music ensemble. Not long ago he played in InCulto with which he appeared in Eurovision contest.

Next to Schumann’s Quartet the musicians present Gumboot Dancing for clarinet and string quartet by D. Bruce, a contemporary American composer. This composition tells about a hundred-year tradition, which was started by the toiling miners in Johannesburg, South Africa. The miners wore gumboots, allowing stomping various rhythms which served as an instrument for communication. Later on, the dances in which the dancers stomp gumboots and create various rhythms, improvise, sing and clap became very popular. Gumboot Dancing is based on similar rhythms. The programme will offer some more 20th century compositions.
