Christmas of Fairy Tales

Works by Piotr Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel, Felix Mendelssohn

Hansel and Gretel and their gingerbread house, the Sleeping Beauty and the spindle, the unhappy Cinderella and her lost shoe – we know all these stories and many other tales perfectly or at least have heard them. But have you ever realised that the composers who heard these stories were so fascinated that they wrote music – ballets, musicals, other stage works. Music is magic, and in that magical world animals speak and fairies exist, good overcomes evil, and friendship – any obstacle!

The concert will feature fragments from the ballets Nutcracker, Scheherazade, Cinderella, Midsummer Night’s Dream and others. Story narrator Milda Varnauskaitė will invite you to become the heroes of fairy tales, and the music performed by Čiurlionis String Quartet and pianists Simona Zajančauskaitė and Emilija Rožukaitė will make you feel as if you are in a real feast.
