JOSEPH HAYDN – Symphony No. 64 in A major, Hob. I:64 (Tempora mutantur)
ARVYDAS MALCYS – Concerto for accordion and string orchestra III part Scherzo
ANDREA DI GIACOMO – Chiaroscuro for accordion and strings
RICHARD GALLIANO – Opale Concerto for accordion and orchestra

Tonight the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra shares the stage with young accordionist Tadas Motiečius. After graduating from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the accordionist has been actively performing, as well as sharing his knowledge as a pedagogue. Having started playing the accordion at the age of ten, today Motiečius is a winner of and diploma holder in major international competitions in the Czech Republic, Latvia, Italy, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, and China. “One can play very serious, academic works on this instrument. The accordion repertoire is antithetic – either fun wedding melodies or very modern works. I choose the second way,” says Motiečius. But don’t assume that academic, modern music can only be serious.

Tonight’s programme includes adventurous compositions by Richard Galliano, Andrea di Giacomo, Arvydas Malcys’ Concerto for accordion III part and Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 64 in A major.

The musicians will be led by a guest from Austria, Ernest Hoetzl, who has won many awards in his native country; studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Charles Francis University of Graz, the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a Ph.D.
