Works by women artists came down to us from the 9th century. Comparing to their contemporaries of the opposite gender, however, their situation regarding recognition and conditions for their work has always been incomparably more straitened. Women could follow their vocation as musicians and composers only if they were members of the noble families, which ensured their private education, or nuns.

This concert presents a unique opportunity to listen to some forgotten and less performed choral works by 16th-century Italian women composers. Other works in thie programme will bridge five centuries of women\'s choral art from different countries, including Italy, Germany, France, Russia, the US and Canada.
