Open to the World 2020: Zero8 and Bel Canto Choir Vilnius. Together

Bel Canto Choir Vilnius presents the first concert of its Open to the World 2020 concert series. More than 80 singers from Bel Canto and Zero8 will perform a mood-lifting and stylistically diverse musical program. The concert will also feature two of the choir’s good friends – Norwegian singer-songwriter Marius Beck and pianist Motiejus Bazaras.

Bel Canto’s first meeting with the famous Swedes

Zero8 (led by artistic director Rasmus Krigström) is one of the best and most popular male-voice choirs in Sweden. The group gained fame for its harmonious blend of barbershop, jazz, and pop music with renditions of classical choral pieces. Over 40 choristers sing in the choir, which has won many international barbershop music awards. Last year, it represented Sweden at the Eurovision Choir competition.

In their first ever concert in Lithuania, Zero8 will present an impressively varied musical program, combining music from a number of different genres, including classical, jazz, pop, and barbershop. Some of the pieces were arranged for the choir by Rasmus Krigström, the choir’s artistic director. The talented Swedes also plan to surprise listeners with their choral interpretation of the traditional Georgian war dance Khorumi, as well as with some pieces from the soundtrack of Ronja!, a Swedish movie based on the book by famous Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren.

Friendship with Marius Beck and passion for modern choral music

The program prepared by Bel Canto Choir Vilnius (led by artistic director Egidijus Kaveckas) will be dominated by works from modern American composers and easy-listening popular music. The program will also feature a joint performance with the choir’s long-time friend – singer-songwriter Marius Beck.

This time, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius will have another pleasant surprise. In the concert program, the choir has included a special piece by Lithuanian composer Algimantas Bražinskas called “Karčiama” (The Tavern). It is a complex and very rarely performed composition about a rowdy evening in an old-fashioned Lithuanian tavern. This musically complex yet very playful piece, full of debauchery, hallucinations, and metaphoric imagery is sure to amaze listeners and make them laugh.

80 singers share the stage

Zero8 and Bel Canto are preparing a spectacular finale for the first Open to the World concert this year. Over 80 singers will join together to perform such classical songs as Amazing Grace, Bring Me Little Water, Silvy, and others.
