Mozart Effect

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART – Overture to the opera Così fan tutte (Women are Like That); Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 21 in C major, KV 467; Symphony No. 41 in C major, KV 551 (Jupiter)

This concert is dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! Composer Giedrius Kuprevičius has shared his intriguing and novel thoughts on Mozart in the radio program Audiologues: “I am completely certain of the vitality, relevance, nonpareil emotional richness, the soundness of musical thought as well as flair and modernity of musical expression of the music of this genial composer. (…) Mozart’s music harbours so many secrets regardless of how many times one listens to it – like fairy-tales red in childhood, with each return it uncovers new meanings, fresh turns of thought, puts forward new questions that provoke other answers.”

Led by conductor Vilmantas Kaliūnas the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra will team up with young pianist Ignas Maknickas. Born in California, the young performer graduated from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, where he studied under associate professor Albina Šikšniūtė. Currently, he continues his education under the tutelage of prof. Joanna MacGregor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Maknickas is the winner of numerous international piano competitions. In 2018-19, he was a soloist in Mozart’s 9th, 10th and 23rd piano concertos with London Mozart Players, Dartington and the Royal Academy of Music orchestras.

Regularly partnering young musicians, the conductor Vilmantas Kaliūnas has recently been frequenting Lithuanian concert scene. The conductor of Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, he has in the past served as the Music Director of the Saarlouis (Germany) Symphony Orchestra, worked with such orchestras as the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Sinfonietta, Saarbrucken’s Collegium Instrumentale, Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha, Jenaer Philharmonie and others.
