In memoriam Anatolijus Šenderovas

ANATOLIJUS ŠENDEROVAS – Concerto for violin and orchestra; Chamber Symphony (String quartet No. 3); Concerto for percussion and strings ...per Giunt

The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (LCO), like other collectives of the National Philharmonic, dedicates a concert in memory of Anatolijus Šenderovas, one of the most famous Lithuanian composers whom we lost a year and a half ago. The LCO and A. Šenderovas have had long-term cooperation. One of the last experiences of their creative friendship, documented on the CD Baltic Concerti (released by “Odradek Records”) featuring A. Šenderovas’ Violin concerto (soloist Džeraldas Bidva, conductor Modestas Pitrėnas), will be performed tonight. It is worth mentioning the impressive performance of this Violin concerto (LCO, soloist Bidva, conductor Martynas Stakionis) at the famous Frankfurt Alte Oper on October 16, 2018 on the occasion of the Lithuanian Culture Days organized by the European Central Bank and the Bank of Lithuania.

Kamilė Rupeikaitė, a researcher of A. Šenderovas’ legacy, remembers the words spoken by the composer during their last conversation: “I never tried to destroy the world. Beauty, love, what is real and eternal are important to me. I do not consider myself a creator because only God is the creator. I just don’t destroy the world. (...) Although I do not believe in God, I deeply believe in the divine origin – of man, culture, art and the world. Because of that bright side, my music is appealing to people because they recognize life in it.”
