Giedrius Pays a Visit to JuozasTo mark the 150th anniversary of Juozas Naujalis and the 75th anniversary of Giedrius Kuprevičius
Juozas Naujalis and Giedrius Kuprevičius’ vocal and instrumental works as well as arrangements
“I am fortunate: I celebrate my anniversary together with Juozas Naujalis and Eduardas Balsys. One marks his 150th anniversary, the other – 100th anniversary. Both are significant to me: I studied piano with the former’s daughter Sofija Naujalytė-Didenkienė, while the latter taught me the secrets of composition and orchestration. Thus the celebration of the anniversary reminds a trinity, which is a good sign”, acknowledged composer Giedrius Kuprevičius in his interviews published this year. The renovated National Philharmonic Hall presents a programme connecting representatives of two different epochs, two remarkable personalities. Their symbolical dialogue reveals an abiding legacy of our classic and a new contemporary glance – the programme features Kuprevičius’ arrangements, orchestrations and editions of Naujalis’ works. In addition, the audience will be offered original vocal and instrumental works by Kuprevičius, as well as premieres. Tonight’s performers the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, singers Dovilė Kazonaitė and Mindaugas Zimkus, accordionist Tadas Motiečius and conductor Modestas Barkauskas also represent different generations.
