Mstislav Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation “Help for Lithuanian Children” was established on April 12, 2003 on the Maestro’s initiative. From its very inception to his last day Maestro Rostropovich served as the Foundation’s president, took active part in concerts and shared his expertise in teaching children endowed with exceptional talent. In 2007, Maestro’s daughter Yelena Rostropovich took over the presidency of the Foundation. Maestro had run charitable work for 25 years committing many an honorarium to charitable deeds. Today, Maestro’s initiative is being supported by the funds from various Lithuanian enterprises as well as personal donations of both the businessmen and other people.
Carrying on with Maestro’s initiative the Foundation in Lithuania works in two directions, funding children with exceptional talents in music, studies or sport and providing financial support to children suffering from rare and incurable diseases, donates medical appliances and medications to the VU Santara Children Hospital.
Under the patronage of the Foundation majority of exceptionally gifted children were able to realise their dreams, ascend the world’s major stages, appear with the world’s finest orchestras and be ranked among the world’s best.
Annually, the Foundation organises the scholarship competition and a concert featuring the new scholarship holders. Tonight’s concert introduces the young musicians – the winners of the 2019 scholarship.
