LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN – Piano sonata No. 15 in D major, Op. 28 (Pastoral); piano sonata No. 31 in A flat major, Op. 110
JOAQUÍN TURINA [PÉREZ] – Piano quintet in G minor, Op. 1

Tonight, the Vilnius String Quartet shares the stage with pianist Golda Vainberg-Tatz, described by critics as “a pianist with wonderful firm, clear touch” (New York Times, USA), “fascinating interpreter” (Tagblat, Germany), “artist of depth and virtuosity” (The Time Argus, USA). A former Vilnius resident, she is a graduate of M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts (Vilnius), S. Rubin Academy of Music (Tel Aviv), Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School (New York). The list of her teachers includes M. Katz, E. Krasovsky, B. Davidovich, N. Svetlanova, J. Swann and R. Tureck. The pianist has given recitals in Europe, Israel, China and the USA, her performances were broadcast on various radio and TV channels around the world.

Tonight, Vainberg-Tatz appears as both the chamber musician and the soloist. She will collaborate with the Vilnius String Quartet in Piano quintet by Joaquín Turina, the Spanish composer and pianist, active at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. As in most of his works composed in classical manner, in this opus echoes of traditional Andalusian music can be heard. The solo part of the programme features a piano dedication to Beethoven. The pianist will perform two sonatas by the Viennese classicist: Sonata No. 15 in D major, which embodies the combination of elegant classicism and emerging romantic impulses, and the penultimate Sonata No. 31 in A flat major, testifying to the composer’s artistic maturity and vision.
