The National Philharmonic pursues a remarkable tradition – Atžalynas concert series featuring young musicians. Three talents who have already approved big expectations, winners of various international competitions, students and graduates of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LAMT) appear with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, one of our foremost collectives, led by conductor Vilmantas Kaliūnas.
Soprano Kamilė Balabonaitė has studied at the Vytautas Magnus University Music Academy. Currently, she seeks Master Degree at the LAMT (prof. V. Prudnikovas). This year she has won third prize at Klaudia Taev International Competition in Estonia.
Violist Kristina Anusevičiūtė, a graduate of Juozas Naujalis Music Gymnasium in Kaunas and the LAMT, is a winner of quite a few competitions. She is a member of Kremerata Baltica chamber orchestra where she has served as principal viola since 2018.
Bassoonist Martynas Mažeika has graduated from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art and earned Bachelor Degree from the LAMT. Currently, he pursues Master Degree studies at the LAMT (under A. Puplauskis). A winner of several competitions, Mažeika is a member of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra.
Regularly partnering young musicians, the conductor Vilmantas Kaliūnas has recently been frequenting Lithuanian concert scene. The conductor of Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra, he has in the past served as the Music Director of the Saarlouis (Germany) Symphony Orchestra, worked with such orchestras as the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Berliner Sinfonietta, Saarbrucken’s Collegium Instrumentale, Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha, Jenaer Philharmonie and others.
The concert is recommended for the audience of 7-year-olds and older.
