Donatas Bagurskas, a champion of double bass art, is not only a member of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, but also a soloist with various ensembles. He has performed a number of works by Giovanni Bottesini, an Italian composer and double bass virtuoso, as well as opuses by other foreign and Lithuanian composers, in which the double bass gets to be a soloist. He recently released his solo CD, The Promise, which features his solo playing, his performance with the accompaniment, and with his own double bass orchestra. The audience will hear the unique orchestra playing in this concert as well. Double basses will perform instrumental pieces and accompany vocalists. The concert features Ieva Prudnikovaitė (mezzo-soprano), a lesser-seen in Lithuania but highly anticipated performer, who has starred in various European opera houses, recently appeared in premieres of two one-act operas (Rimsky-Korsakov’s Kashchey the Deathless and Stravinsky’s The Nightingale) in St. Galen’s Opera (Switzerland). The concert programme with double basses will take you into a mysterious and unpredictable “affair” filled with passions, tango rhythms, beautiful melodies and intriguing musical dialogues.
