Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of the Polish Radio is the first guest of the anniversary concert season at the National Philharmonic. The collective was named one of the finest chamber orchestras of our time in the Canadian Gazette Montreal, while the London Independent wrote: “The collective is one of the best orchestras of its kind in the world, has an exceptional sound, an amazing legato and unparalleled conductor Agnieszka Duczmal.” She founded this collective while still a student in Poznan in 1968. The orchestra was awarded a silver medal at the Herbert von Karajan Orchestra Competition in the then West Berlin in 1976. The year before, Duczmal earned a diploma as one of the brightest young conductors in this competition. In 1982, the Saint Vincent International Cultural Centre in Rome, under the auspices of UNESCO and the President of Italy, decorated the active musician with the title of “La Donna del Mondo” (Woman of the World) for her social activities and achievements in world culture.

The Amadeus orchestra, led by the conductor dubbed legendary to this day, regularly records for Polish Radio (has already documented 10,000 minutes of music spanning from Baroque to contemporary), collaborates with world radio stations (German NDR, WDR, SFB, London BBC, Montreal CBC), participates in concerts on Polish, French, Japanese television, tours Europe appearing in such halls as Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall or Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, as well as the USA, Mexico, Kuwait, Japan, Africa and in other parts of the world. Amadeus has recorded more than 50 CDs, collaborated with stars such as Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Wynton Marsalis, Ivo Pogorelić, Vadim Repin, Grigory Sokolov, Maxim Vengerov, Ingolf Wunder and other prominent musicians.

In Vilnius, Frédéric Chopin’s exceptionally beautiful Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 1 in E minor features young Polish pianist Joanna Goranko – a winner of various international competitions in Poland, Germany, Russia and China, participant of festivals and forums in Miami and Calgary, widely known as a talented Chopin interpreter. In addition to the works by Mozart, encoded in the name of the orchestra, or Polish composer Szymanowski, the concert programme also includes an original version of Modest Mussorgsky’s colourful Pictures at an Exhibition: Duczmal herself arranged this very popular opus for string orchestra.
