This year, the Folklore and Ethnography Centre of the Lithuanian National Minorities is organizing a folklore festival for the fifteenth time. The festival presents traditional culture of various countries, performances of folklore ensembles, master classes of notable experts of ethnography, folk crafts fair, educational programs for children and youth. Last year, in addition to concert performances in Vilnius, folk dance evenings and outbound concerts took place in small Lithuanian cities, famous educators conducted master classes, a round table discussion Folklore in the Modern World: Issues of Pedagogy, Performance and Folklore Expeditions and conference of young folklorists My Family – My Roots were held.
According to the organisers, Pokrovskije Kolokola is the only festival in the Baltic States that annually is offered world music works. The idea of the organisers is to combine the old spiritual values with the expressive language of modern music. Therefore, in this year’s concert programme they intend to present a retrospective of this music – the concert will feature the fragments of the festival’s commissions and initiated world music works from 2009–2020. The second half of the concert will showcase the collectives from Belarus, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, Macedonia, Norway, France, Russia, Sakartvelo, Ukraine and Hungary.
