Perhaps, the most tantalising aspect of this concert is the soloist – pianist Lukas Geniušas, who has gained worldwide recognition and is swiftly ascending the ladder of his musical career. Recently, Lukas has been focusing on contemporary music, which requires special prowess and mastering of complex techniques. This time he will perform the Concerto for piano and orchestra by the 20th-century Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. The opus was commissioned by the prestigious Salzburg Festival in 1988. According to music critics, this four-movement composition is “one of the best 20th century piano concertos”.
