JOHANNES BRAHMS – Piano quintet in F minor, Op. 34

It is known that Schumann and Brahms were close friends. Schumann has supported Brahms from the very beginning of his career. Brahms especially sought Clara’s, Schumann’s wife, advise on his opus Op. 34, which was started as a work for two violins, viola and two cellos, but this version was lost. Later Brahms transcribed it into Sonata for two pianos, but finally it ended as a Piano quintet. It is a wonderful opportunity for the performers and listeners to discover the stylistic similarities and differences of the two composers. In fact, several years ago the State Small Theatre ofVilnius has staged Trio by pianist and dramatist Israela Margalit, which tells the half real/half concocted story of love triangle between Schumann, Brahms and pianist Clara Wieck-Schumann. Čiurlionis Quartet, a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize, and Anastasia Injushina, a Russian pianist living in Finland, will present their own interpretations of these stories; and also will perform solo works.Injushina has studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire and J. Sibelius Music Academy. She is a winner of second prize in the National Maj Lind Piano Competition and first prize in the ARD Chamber Music Competition in Munich. Since 2009, Injushina has organised and is the Artistic Director of Spring Light Chamber Music festival in Helsinki. The pianist appears as a soloist and as chamber musician, collaborates with English Chamber Orchestra and Hamburger Camerata. With the latter she has recorded a CD of works by J.S. Bach and his sons (2013).
