String Quartet at Variance
Čiurlionis Quartet, a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize, is regularly appearing in concerts combining diverse genres. The Quartet’s programmes intrigue by thought-provoking themes and new ideas, but at the same time reveal the Quartet’s rich experience and artistic criteria. List of the Quartet’s stage partners includes various renowned Lithuanian and foreign musicians. This time the Quartet shares the stage with saxophonist Petras Vyšniauskas and folksinger Veronika Povilionienė. Both acclaimed musicians are recipients of the Lithuanian National Prize. The representatives of different musical fields decided to merge quartet music with folksong and jazz improvisation. Therefore, today the works by the Lithuanian composers Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, Juozas Naujalis, Juozas Pakalnis, Juozas Gruodis and others will not only sound anew, but present unexpected musical surprises.
