Time-honoured International Music Festival Le strade d’Europa. Lithuania–Italy comes to Klaipėda and it presents a programme embracing music from the 18th–21st centuries. Last year the festival commissioned young Turkish composer Ilkay Bora Öder to write a composition. His Tombik was premiered last year (and it will be performed in this concert). Moreover, we will be the first to hear his latest opus – String quartet. Yet another highlight of the programme will be Sonnets et Rondeaux for string quartet by Giovanni Sollima, a celebrated Italian composer and cellist. Sollima writes minimalist music, explores original expression possibilities thus his compositions delight not only academic music connoisseurs but also jazz, rock and even metal aficionados. Illustrious film directors and choreographers such as Peter Greenaway, Bob Wilson, Peter Stein and John Torturro have employed his music many times.
This wide stylistic panorama will be presented by acclaimed masters: Čiurlionis Quartet, a recipient of the National Prize; harpsichordist Nijolė Dorotėja Beniušytė, a graduate of Alfredo Casella Conservatory in L’Aquila (Italy), an organiser of the International Music Festival Le strade d’Europa. Lithuania–Italy; and returning to Lithuanian scene Italian mandolin player Francesco Mammola, a graduate of the same Conservatory, a winner of numerous international competitions, a recipient of various awards including the National Award of Art “Claudio Abbado”.
