On December 15th, Saturday, at 7pm, the audience gathered at the National Philharmonic Hall will have a chance to greet the conductor Modestas Pitrėnas, who has just been awarded the Lithuanian National Culture and Arts Prize. At the festive evening he will conduct the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra accompanied by other laureates of the same prestigious award - the Rūta and Zbignevas Ibelhauptai piano duo. The viola solo will be performed by Jurgis Juozapaitis.

Conductor Modestas Pitrėnas was awarded the 2012 National Culture and Art Prize for the creative flourish in interpreting classical and contemporary music and the dissemination of Lithuanian music culture.
On December 6th the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra performed together with its artistic director and soloist Sergei Krylov in Baku. It made a guest appearance at the 4th Mstislav Rostropovich Baku International Festival founded by the maestro in 2006.
The National Philharmonic Society offers its listeners a refuge from the first cold winds of winter and invites them to a concert on December 8th, Saturday, at 7pm, featuring a programme of hot Italian, Spanish and Brazilian music spiced with bits of cinematography. The Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO, artistic director and chief conductor Juozas Domarkas) under the baton Yuri Serov promises a true musical feast. The programme features a passionate symphonic suite from the film The Godfather, composed by the Italian film music master Nino Rota; the famous guitar concerto Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquin Rodrigo pulsing with Spanish heat and the Forest of the Amazon suite by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, written for the movie Green Mansions.
