This Christmas is special for the National Philharmonic Society. 70 years ago, on December 25th, 1940, the first concert of the newly established Lithuanian Philharmonic Society took place. On December 18th, 2010, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under its artistic director and principal conductor Juozas Domarkas will celebrate its 70th Anniversary, together with its long-standing stage partners. Shortly thereafter, from December 26th to December 30th the National Philharmonic Hall invites to spend the holiday season with music at the Christmas Music Week series.
On December 4th, a traditional Saturday orchestral concert at the National Philharmonic Hall will feature the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Georg Mark and pianist Daumantas Kirilauskas. This programme offers a string of marvellous classical and romantic masterpieces, including the Coriolan Overture and the Third Piano Concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann’s last Symphony No. 4.
