The 5th International J. S. Bach Music Festival

Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, Antonio Vivaldi

On Easter Monday the Festival’s forth concert presents two geniuses of baroque period – Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi. In their instrumental and vocal opuses the solos will feature flute, oboe d’amore, violin, organ and baritone! The programme includes Vivaldi’s Concerto for flute in F major and Concerto grosso in A minor for two violins from the collection L’Estro armonico, as well as Bach’s Concerto for oboe d’amore in A major, Toccata and Fugue in D minor for organ and church cantata Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen composed in Leipzig in 1726. The evening will be crowned with Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C major, an exuberant and impulsive opus, the first from the set of four suites. “The melodies of dance suites are imbued with the elegance and grace that has been forgotten in our world. That is an ideal symbol of rococo art. Their perfect charm projects both power and gracefulness”, wrote Albert Schweitzer, the philosopher and Bach researcher. Suite is dressed in colourful orchestral attire, while the elegant rhythm and strong pulse put across the eternal beauty of Bach’s music.
