A co-operative event organized by the Musica Humana chamber ensemble, the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society and the Municipality of the city of Neringa, the Curonian Spit Festival began its existence in the summer of 1999.

Usually held in the first half of August in the churches of the small resort towns of Nida and Juodkrantė, the Curonian Spit Festival offers an exquisite cultural programme for holidaymakers, who can find peace and harmony not only in the most spectacular sceneries on the Baltic coast, but also in sensitive and intimate chamber music by Baroque, early classical and contemporary composers.

Neringa, the nature’s charming creation, has always lured and, I have no doubts, will continue to lure musicians, artists, sculptors, architects, writers and poets. This astonishingly unique spit of land separating sea from lagoon is like a magnet encoded with transcendental energy, which brings us closer to the Eternity. But what is Eternity? And how to realise its idea is a quite complicated question. The Art of music brings each of us closer to the eternity, we experience an unquenchable aspiration to improve and create. This year the entire world is celebrating the 330th birth anniversary of the Baroque genius Johann Sebastian Bach. His music featured in the festival programmes will provide both the performers and the listeners with spiritual peace and hope.
