Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra always brings interesting and intriguing programmes to the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall. This time the audience will be engulfed by The Wave of Classics and Exotics in which the Orchestra will perform works by Michael Haydn (Joseph Haydn’s younger brother), Beethoven and Britten, the classic of the 20th century.

Toshio Hosokawa’s (b. 1955), Japanese composer, opus will lend exotic flavour to the concert programme. Its solo part will be performed on a national instrument shô – a wind instrument consisting of 17 slender bamboo pipes fitted to the base. The sound of shô is reminiscent of phoenix’s voice, perhaps that is why it looks like a wing. This rare instrument, sound of which will be heard for the first time at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall, will be played by Japanese Tomoko Kiba. The programme’s soloist and guest first violin of the Orchestra will be Frank Stadler (violin, Austria). The principal violin of Salzburg Mozarteum is visiting Lithuania again: last autumn he collaborated with Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla at the Klaipėda Concert Hall.
