The Universe of J. S. Bach’s Music I

Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel

This concert opens the series The Universe of J.S. Bach’s Music. Albert Schweitzer, a theologian, organist, philosopher, physician and author of one of the 20th-century foremost monographs on Bach, thus described the composer’s place in the history: “Bach is the end. Nothing comes from himeverything merely leads up to him”. After Bach’s death, his music has slipped into oblivion for some time, but since the end of the 18th c. it inspired many a composer such as Mozart, Beethoven as well as a number of romanticist ones. During Bach’s lifetime his music was barely known (Bach was praised as an outstanding organist), but in the musical panorama of the 20th and 21st centuries he is among most frequently performed composers. Musica humana continues the musical journey with Bach and his contemporaries.
