Programme features Camille Saint-Saëns’ fantasy The Carnival of the Animals (“Le carnaval des animaux”)

Tonight the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra presents young talents patronised by M. Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation “Support for the Children of Lithuania”.

French composer Camille Saint-Saëns wrote fantasy The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) in 1886. It is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements abounding with clear-cut genre scenes:

Introduction and Royal March of the Lion (Introduction et marche royale du lion)

Hens and Roosters (Poules et coqs)

Wild Donkeys Swift Animals (Hémiones (animaux véloces)

Tortoises (Tortues)

The Elephant (L’Éléphant)

Kangaroos (Kangourous)

Aquarium

Characters with Long Ears (Personnages à longues oreilles)

The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Woods (Le Coucou au fond des bois)

Aviary (Volière)

Pianists (Pianistes)

Fossils (Fossiles)

The Swan (Le cygne)

The concert programme features poem The Carnival of the Animals written for Saint-Saëns’ opus by American poetOgden Nash (1902–1971).
