Last year was enriched with concerts representing various artistic facets of composer Teisutis Makačinas. Having celebrated his 80th anniversary the composer is admired not only for his evergreen pop songs but also his academic music. Makačinas’ output embraces chamber, symphonic, vocal, choral and organ compositions as well as music for theatre productions. He boasts long-standing collaboration with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra. His Three Dances (1961), dedicated to the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, has been performed around Europe more than 400 time; Sinfonia giocosa (1990) garnered an orchestral prize. The composer has delivered several instrumental concertos: composed the first Lithuanian Concerto for Bassoon and Double Symphony Orchestra (premiere in 2010), Concerto for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra, Clarinet Concerto, Accordion Concerto, etc. In addition to his chamber opus this concert features a revived Concerto for Trumpet and Chamber Orchestra, which will feature Laurynas Lapė, one of the leading and active solo trumpeters in Lithuania. The soloist is a graduate of the LAMT and Malmö Academy of Music (Sweden), collaborating with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and various ensembles, appearing in jazz and contemporary music festivals. In addition to Makačinas’ Concerto the trumpeter will perform Torelli’s opus. This Italian baroque genius was famous not only as a violinist and composer, but also the founder of concerto genre with a special focus on trumpet.

The programme will be led by Robertas Šervenikas, the LCO’s regular partner. His repertoire embraces opera, ballet and symphonic music with a special focus on contemporary music. The latest reviews of American choreographer John Neumeier’s production of The Nutcracker in Munich attest to Maestro Šervenikas’ outstanding acclaim in Bavarian State Opera.
