Part of the CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES

Jeronimas Kačinskas (17 April 1907–15 September 2005), an exponent of Lithuanian avant-garde, has made his name on the Lithuanian music scene of interwar period as an envoy of bizarre musical world and fanatical belief in both new music and his own ideas. Nonet, featured in this programme, earned great acclaim at the International Society for Contemporary Music Congress in London (1938) and was compared to Béla Bartók’s music.

In the USA Jeronimas Kačinskas was music director of the Melrose Symphony Orchestra and taught composition and conducting at the Berkelee College of Music for about twenty years. From a number of Lithuania’s distinguished composers, who have emigrated to the West in 1944, he was the only one to witness Lithuania’s independence”. (Ona Narbutienė)

In the programme of Kačinskas’ works, the Vilnius String Quartet will be joined by contemporary music expert and winner of national and international competitions, pianist Daumantas Kirilauskas, the St. Christopher Quintet, who won Tomasi Wind Ensemble Competition in Marseilles, and double bassist Arnoldas Gurinavičius, who has initiated many innovative artistic projects.
