The WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne was established in 1947 and became the leading orchestra of Cologne as part of the West German Radio. It is a full-time symphony orchestra that is not used for radio or television productions, but can be seen and heard perform live on the radio and television as well as on the concert stage. The Orchestra has recorded frequently and is known world-wide for its interpretations of 20th-century music and collaboration with the leading avant-garde German composers (such as Stockhausen, Henze and Rihm) in addition to the standard Classical and Romantic repertory. It has earned international acclaim under the batons of many celebrated guest conductors and its music directors, who have included Christoph von Dohnanyi, Zdenek Macal, Hiroshi Wakasugi, Gary Bertini, Hans Vonk, and, since 1997, Semyon Bychkov.

For the performance of Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, the Orchestra will share the stage with “a young star in the cello firmament” (Grammophone), French cellist Gautier Capuçon.

Tickets at the Box Office.
