Sponsored by the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Lithuania

Eighty years ago, in 1927, the composer Reinhold Glier conducted the inaugural concert of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus. For many years Ilya Musin, a representative of the legendary St. Petersburg conducting school, stood at the helm of the orchestra, as well as did two of his famous pupils – Valery Gergiev and Yuri Temirkanov – in later years.

The roster of world-famous performers, with whom the Orchestra has appeared in concerts over the years, includes many iconic personalities, such as David Oistrakh, Svyatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Mstislav Rostropovich, Yehudi Menuhin, Gidon Kremer, conductors Evgeny Mravinsky, Genady Rozhdestvensky, Evgeny Svetlanov and Kurt Sanderling.

Since September 2001, the Orchestra has been performing under the artistic leadership of Alexander Anissimov, a recipient of the Belarusian State Prize. For their guest appearance in Vilnius, the Orchestra invited Andrei Galanov, the principal conductor with the National Academic Opera Theatre of the Republic of Belarus. His engagements have included collaborations with the Aix-en-Provence Chamber Orchestra (France), Marrucino Theatre Symphony Orchestra (Italy) and Tokyo New Philharmonic Orchestra, and appearances in Belgium, UK, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France and Japan.

The solo violin in Tchaikovsky’s suite from the ballet The Sleeping Beauty will be performed by Yulia Stefanovich, the orchestra’s principal violin and the recipient of the Medal of Francysk Skaryna.

Tickets at the Box Office.
