Michael Nyman is the greatest contemporary British composer of minimalist music, librettist, pianist and musicologist, generally acknowledged to have been the first to apply the term minimalism to music. He is, perhaps, best known for his lengthy collaboration with the filmmaker Peter Greenaway, which resulted in writing soundtracks for eleven of his films. At every turn Nyman has proved eminently practical. Not for him the ivory tower anguish of a tormented composer grappling with abstract systems. Rather he has consistently displayed openness to collaboration, a spry sense of humour, a literate imagination and an instinctive ability to engage a highly diverse audience. This stunning concert will feature Nyman’s own group and one of the leading British sopranos – the extravagant Sarah Leonard.

Sold out.
