Programme
The singer Giedrė Kaukaitė: I Know That Smoke

On this Sunday afternoon a manifold meeting with Lithuanian singer Giedrė Kaukaitė presents various artistic achievements and marks the 50th creative anniversary of the singer. The audience will be introduced to her CD, album and book as well as a documentary I Know that Smoke (2017). Musicologist prof. Jonas Bruveris shared his insights about the film (7 meno dienos, 2018-02-16): “Kaukaitė could be a subject of several films focusing on her manifold vocations including the one as a music critic. Here she shares her competence as a professional singer, pedagogue and vocal expert. <…> In general, the film I Know that Smoke speaks about the recognised opera soloist’s decision to refuse the theatre scene in order to dedicate herself to the concert scene. As if drawn by the songs that were sung by our ancestors (i.e. as if she has felt their smoke), she has become a part, inducer and inspirer of a new music movement. <…> In the film Kaukaitė comments her work as if from aside, the way she speaks and writes about others. Indeed, the 54-minute film sheds light on only tiny part of Kaukaitė’s creative work. For her repertoire includes not only Lithuanian music, but also spans from baroque to the 20th century music. <…> The viewer gets truly enriched by this peaceful narration. What is this film about? “The film is about the artist’s choice and criteria. The right and possibility to choose is a great moral value, which one should prove and defend”, says Kaukaitė.
