“Let’s get acquainted with the orchestra” is the motto of the concert, which has grown into an appealing tradition. For a number of years at the beginning of a new year the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) has been introducing talented orchestra members who showcase their soloist skills in intriguing and rarely performed opuses accompanied by their colleagues. Anyone from the string to wind player, from the first to the bass stand enters the stage as a soloist. This year’s programme features works from various epochs revealing the possibilities and virtuosity of every solo instrument. Tonight’s programme includes two contemporary compositions: miniature by Georgs Pelēcis, a Latvian composer, untraditionally pairing two soloists – violin and vibraphone, and Isabel's dream for cello and string orchestra by Arvydas Malcys, a composer and cellist with the LNSO. The host of the concert will be our charismatic musicologist Viktoras Gerulaitis.
