JOHANNES BRAHMS – Sonata for violin and piano No. 2, Op. 100 in A major

This concert will be a thrill for connoisseurs of Balys Dvarionas’ music. Enchanting by its melodiousness, lyric element, colourful harmony and instrumentation as well as graceful virtuosity the music of one of the most outstanding personalities of the 20th century Lithuanian culture still enjoys concert life. Violinist Justina Auškelytė and Italian pianist Cesare Pezzi are successfully promoting B. Dvarionas’ output in the world. The Duo was the first to record a CD Balys Dvarionas Works for Violin and Piano featuring complete works for violin and piano by the composer (some of the works were never recorded before). “Naxos Records”, the largest classical music label, released the CD in May 2017. The fact that such an authoritative record label is interested in music by B. Dvarionas attests to the recognition of Lithuanian music and high professional level of the performers.

A disciple of Prof. Jurgis Dvarionas at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and second prize winner at the Third Jascha Heifetz International Competition for Violinists in Vilnius violinist Justina Auškelytė is pursuing active performing career. She has studied at the Lorenzo Perosi Music Academy (Italy), the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (Austria), as well as the prestigious Juilliard School of Music (USA) where she has earned Master Degree in 2016. In 2015, she appeared with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall, in 2017 took part in the project Hommage à Heifetz at the Palace of Grand Dukes of Lithuania and made her debut in Musikverein in Vienna. Since 2008, she has been collaborating with Italian pianist Cesare Pezzi. The pianist has won the prestigious Chiarappa Chamber Music Prize in Florence in 2013. “The pianist of rare sensitivity; his playing is fresh and natural”, Italian piano legend Maria Tipo described Cesare Pezzi.
