LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN – Quartet No.12 in E-flat major, Op. 127
Quintet No. 1 in C major, Op. 29

The Vilnius String Quartet, a recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize and the Baltic Assembly Prize, constantly comes up with interesting programmes. The musicians dedicate this concert to Beethoven’s chamber music (also bowing to the composer on his birthday in December).

Haydn and Mozart have greatly influenced Beethoven’s writing for quartet. String quartet genre was his creative laboratory that embraced his artistic development from the very early attempts to his mature opuses. Beethoven’s six last quartets belong to the latter period. The first of them, String quartet No 12 in E flat major (1825), will be featured on tonight’s programme. Next piece, the Quintet No 1 in C major was composed in 1801, during his earlier period. The Vilnius String Quartet will share the stage with violist Mintautas Kriščiūnas. A winner of various competitions, he was a member of Sinchronic String Quartet, the Orkester Norden and the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. The violist has appeared in various international and national festivals includingUsedom Music Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Young Euro festival, Gothenburg Culture Festival, Druskomanija.
