French composer Camille Saint-Saëns composed the fantasy The Carnival of the Animals (Le carnaval des animaux) in 1886. It is a program suite of fourteen movements – a humorous representation of various animals:

Introduction and Royal March of the Lion (Introduction et marche royale du lion)

Wild Asses: Swift Animals (Hémiones (animaux véloces))
Tortoises (Tortues)
The Elephant (L'éléphant)
Kangaroos (Kangourous)
Aquarium
Characters with Long Ears (Personnages à longues oreilles)
The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Woods (Le coucou au fond des bois)
Aviary (Volière)
Pianists (Pianistes)

The concert will also feature Carnival of the Animals, a poem written to this Saint-Saëns’ opus by American poet Ogden Nash (1902–1971).
