Inauguration Concert of Dalia Kuznecovaitė – New First Violin of the Vilnius String Quartet

2016-02-23

This season has brought significant changes to one of the most stable chamber music collectives in Lithuania, the Vilnius String Quartet. Last December, Audronė Vainiūnaitė, who has been the first violin of the Quartet for 50 years, was replaced by her former student, violinist Dalia Kuznecovaitė.  An inauguration concert of the new member of the Quartet will take place on February 24th at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.

“After eight years of studies and living abroad I have returned to Vilnius. I am glad to have received an invitation to join the Vilnius String Quartet. Long ago, while I was a pupil at the National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis School of the Arts, I studied chamber music with Professor Audronė Vainiūnaitė, so it is a great honour and responsibility to take over her position in the ensemble. Working in Quartet demands special ensemble feeling and unanimity. It is an interesting and engaging activity”, – says Dalia Kuznecovaitė.

In 1995–2007 she studied at the National Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis School of the Arts (with Beata Šmidtienė and Professor Jonas Urba); in 2004–2007 – at the HochschulefürMusik Köln (with Professor Zakhar Bron); in 2007–2012 – at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (with Professor Petru Munteanu).  In 2012–2015 Dalia Kuznecovaitė studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique Paris (with Professors Boris Garlitsky and Svetlin Roussev), which she graduated receiving the best assessments from the jury and a special prize. In 2003–2007 the violinist received fellowship from the Mstislav Rostropovich foundation. In 2009 she was awarded the prize and certificate of honour for artistic achievements by President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus.

The violinist made series of highly successful appearances at diverse national and international competitions; she performed solo with various foreign and Lithuanian collectives, giving concerts in Germany, France, the USA, China and Canada under conductors Michael Sanderling, Mykola Diadura, Enrique Batiz, Fabio Mastrangelo and Andris Poga. In near future, solo appearances are planned to take place in Ukraine, Germany, the USA and Mexico, however, currently her main focus is placed on the concert activities of the Vilnius String Quartet.

Inviting the listeners to the concert in Vilnius, Dalia Kuznecovaitė mentioned that the concert programme will include one the most fascinating pieces from the Quartet’s repertoire  - Der Tod und das Mädchen (Death and the Maiden) by Franz Schubert. The programme also features a piece by another coryphaeus of string quartet music – the audience will have a chance to hear Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet op. 76, No.2.

The concert title In the Light of Čiurlionis reveals that the programme will not be limited to Schubert and Haydn. Being the specialists of classical, romantic quartet the members of the Vilnius String Quartet have always paid significant attention to contemporary repertoire. Sharing the stage with guest pianist Rokas Zubovas, the musicians will present two piano quintets by contemporary Lithuanian composers, who drew inspiration  from the works by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. The listeners will hear Stillness by Mindaugas Urbaitis and MiKonst by Remigijus Merkelys.

The concert of the Vilnius String Quartet, its new first violin Dalia Kuznecovaitė and pianist Rokas Zubovas will take place on February 24th, Wednesday, 7pm at the Grand Hall of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society.
