He has premiered over 300 pieces for trombone and has recorded over 70 solo CDs. Conductor, composer and a trombone virtuoso Christian Lindberg is mentioned along the most prominent brass performers of the 20th century, such as Miles Davis or Louis Armstrong. On December 20th, this internationally acclaimed Swedish trombonist will give a concert in Vilnius.

Christian Lindberg will share the stage of the Philharmonic with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra (LNSO) and will appear in the role of composer, soloist and conductor. It is worthwhile noting that in 2009 Lindberg has become the principal conductor of the Norwegian Arctic Philharmonic Orchestra; he has also conducted the Nordic Chamber Orchestra (2004-2011) and Swedish Wind Ensemble (2005-2012). Ch. Lindberg is invited to conduct diverse orchestras in Europe, America and Asia. His upcoming conducting engagements include concerts with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Flemish Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, New Zealand Symphony, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and other symphony orchestras in the venues like Viennese Musikverein, Tokyo Suntory Hall, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, etc, as well as performances at Beethovenfest and Salzburg Festspielhaus.

As a composer Lindberg has been constantly busy with commissions since he wrote his first composition Arabenne for Trombone and Strings in 1997-98. He is preoccupied with composition and presentations of his own music. Orchestras around the world have been queuing up, and he has composed over 50 works on commission from, among others, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Hessische Rundfunk, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, International Sion Musik Festival, Hardanger International Music Festival, Vertavo Quartet, Vib’bone Duo, Sergio Carolino and the Wild Gang, and many others. According to Lindberg, he does not write in any style whatsoever, but just listens to what his brain and soul tell him.

Together with the LNSO, Lindberg is going to present an impressive symphony music programme at a concert in Vilnius. Along Igor Stravinsky’s ballet suite Firebird, based on Russian folk motifs and featuring such fairy tale heroes as evil magician Kaschei, the fantastic Firebird and prince Ivan, the programme also includes Lindberg’s Kundraan Trilogy for trombone and orchestra. This piece is a kind of paraphrase of Goethe’s Faust, a musical tale about the eternal battle between good and evil, an encounter of man and Satan. Only individual movements of this trilogy have been performed at different concert venues so far and the world premiere of the entire trilogy will take place in Vilnius, at the Grand Hall of the Philharmonic.

The concert of Christian Lindberg and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra will take place on December 20th, Saturday, 7pm at the Grand Hall of the Philharmonic. The concert is organised in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Embassy in Vilnius, it is supported by the Radisson Blu Royal Astorija Hotel and Bank Nordea.
