Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra pays tribute to Mstislav Rostropovich in Baku

On December 6th the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra performed together with its artistic director and soloist Sergei Krylov in Baku. It made a guest appearance at the 4th Mstislav Rostropovich Baku International Festival founded by the maestro in 2006.

Director General of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society, Rūta Prusevičienė, was happy to receive a phone call from Baku, confirming that the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra is preparing for the evening concert that features, among other works, Haydn’s Farewell Symphony which has become the Orchestra’s staple piece. This time the candles were extinguished one by one until the last which remained lit beside the portrait of Rostropovich, in eternal memory of the great maestro.

This year the festival’s roster boasts many world-celebrated orchestras and soloists, including the English Chamber Orchestra under the artistic leadership of British violinist Stephanie Gonley, Russian violinist Maxim Vengerov, Italian cellist Enrico Dindo, Bulgarian pianist Plamena Mangova, tenor trio composed of Francesco Demuro, Stuart Neill and Badri Maisuradze, the Maggio Musicale Orchestra from Florence and the Azerbaijan State Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Rauf Abdullayev.
