Christmas Music Week

Six different concerts in five days, covering a variety of genres, from Christmas carols and high-spirited Baroque music to popular songs and intimate chamber rendezvous, offer the season’s musical delicacies that should please the most refined palates.

On December 26th, Monday, at 12.00 Christmas concert for the whole family is probably unimaginable without “Ąžuoliukas” Christmas songs. Which has become a traditional, “Ąžuoliukas” performance at the National Philharmonic Hall will delight all assembled with a cheerful Christmas concert. This year it will be spiced with jazz. “Christmas in jazz hoarfrost...”…so poetic and clearly will intertwine boys and youth choir “Ąžuoliukas” voices and music of Saulius Šiaučiulis Jazz Trio. Compositions of Lithuanian and foreign composers will be performed.

On December 26th, Monday, at 7 p.m. the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and its artistic director, soloist and conductor Sergei Krylov will invite you to take part in a musical journey to Austria and Italy. The traditional Christmas concert of the Orchestra will sparkle with ingenious musical sounds of one Austrian (Mozart) and three Italian (Boccherini, Vivaldi, Bottesini) composers. Most talented violinist S. Krylov will play Vivaldi concerto, and the evening will be crowned by rarely as soloists on stage taking place violin and double-bass: a spectacular masterpiece of Bottesini “Gran Duo Concertante” will perform Sergei Krylov and one of the best Lithuanian double-bass players Donatas Bagurskas.

On December 27th, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. Chamber music ensmble „Musica Humana“ (artistic director and conductor Algirdas Vizgirda) will delight you with a sparkling Baroque concert. Compositions of Bach and Vivaldi will be performed with instruments, voice and even feet! Concertos, motets and suites, by Bach, and a symphony of Vivaldi will be performed sharing stage with the "Jauna Muzika" choir (artistic director and conductor Vaclovas Augustinas), the early dance company "Festa Cortese" (artistic director Alina Žutautaitė), soloists Karolina Beinarytė, Paulius Biveinis (violins), and Simona Vaitkevičiūtė (flute).

On December 28th, Wednesday, at 7 pm Vilnius String Quartet and pianist Golda Vainberg-Tatz (USA), trumpeter Algirdas Januševičius, clarinetist Vytautas Giedraitis and double-bass player Arnoldas Gurinavičius will perform the concert "Rare meetings". The evening's program is like a journey through the sounds from nineteenth and twentieth centuries admiring various instrumental combinations and tonal moods. A romantic Dvořák’s Piano Quintet will be performed, a sensual Saint-Saëns’ composition for seven instruments will speak with chains of sounds, and snappy or even sometimes ironic musical language of Prokofiev this time will be presented with the original opus – “Ouverture sur des Thèmes juifs“ for piano, clarinet and string quartet.

On December 29th, Thursday, at 7 pm The Čiurlionis Quartet, who constantly surprises us with original concerts will give us another one! Remembering their last Christmas with the guitar and bandoneón the Quartet invited the pan flute to share the stage. December 29, 7 p.m. the Čiurlionis Quartet will perform a Christmas concert with the pan flute virtuoso, winner of many competitions throughout Europe, a guest musician from Moldova Stefan Negură. With the addition of double bass player Donatas Bagurskas, the company will feature the most popular classical arrangements for pan flute and strings.

On December 30th, Friday, at 7 pm as it becomes a tradition, the “Kremerata Baltica” chamber orchestra (artistic director Gidon Kremer) will take the stage for their Christmas concert. Every year, holding a rich tour of concerts around the world, the company always comes back home to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to perform in their homeland at the end of December. The Orchestra cordially invites friends to enjoy the warm Christmas mood and turn sense of this annual celebration to musical sounds. A "Christmas Night's Dream" programme after Vytautas V. Landsbergis stories will be performed by “Kremerata Baltica" with the participation of Danish accordionist Bjarke Mogensen and the author himself.
